Atiku Visits El-Rufai After Alleged Airport Arrest Attempt

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has paid a solidarity visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following what he described as a failed attempt to arrest the ex-governor at an airport upon his return to Nigeria.

Atiku disclosed the visit in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Friday. According to him, El-Rufai remained calm and resolute despite the incident.

“Last night, I paid a solidarity visit to the former Governor of Kaduna State and stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following the failed attempt to arrest him at the airport upon his arrival in the country. He was unfazed by the incident and remains committed to the battle to enthrone a better Nigeria,” Atiku wrote.

Details surrounding the alleged arrest attempt remain unclear, and there has been no official statement from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.

El-Rufai, a prominent political figure and key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has continued to play an active role in national political discourse. The development comes amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers say the solidarity visit underscores growing alliances and shifting dynamics within Nigeria’s opposition politics as the country moves closer to another electoral cycle.
