PDP National Secretariat to Reopen Monday

The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee has announced that the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza will reopen on Monday, signaling a return to normalcy within the party.

The announcement followed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja on Thursday. The faction, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the development to reporters.

The secretariat was sealed by the Nigeria Police Force on November 19, 2025, following clashes between the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee.

Speaking on the matter, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, acting National Secretary of the PDP, said the faction had written to the police to regain access after the courts dismissed rival claims to the office.

“We wrote to the police. Remember that the police sealed the place, and then the other group went to court to ask the police to open it. The matter was dismissed because they had no locus. So by Monday, we are taking over the office,” he said.

Anyanwu emphasised that the PDP no longer has competing factions and is firmly under the leadership of Mohammed. He cited a recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which nullified the party’s November 15–16, 2025 convention and affirmed the authority of the caretaker committee.

“Yes, we had issues—court issues—and last Friday, the Federal High Court in Ibadan made it very clear that the problem of PDP is over because the so-called convention is a nullity. The body with full powers to speak for the party is the National Caretaker Committee, led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed,” Anyanwu said.

He added that the reopening of the secretariat would ensure the party fields candidates in forthcoming elections and that members are eager to resume party activities.

On the FCT area council elections, Anyanwu said the caretaker committee would actively campaign to secure victory.

“We are going to hit the ground running with our campaign until February 18, the last day for campaigning,” he said.

Reacting to INEC’s registration of two new political parties, Anyanwu welcomed the development, noting that it strengthens democracy in Nigeria.

“For us, it’s a good development. What it means now is that we have 21 political parties in Nigeria, which is a positive development,” he said.
